LAHORE: Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) recently launched an initiative to change the behaviour of the society towards transgenders.
As part of the initiative, a social media campaign was launched using the hashtag #ChangeTheClap to raise awareness. A video featuring Pakistan’s first transgender model Kami Sid was also released. The video depicts the negative behaviour that the transgender community is often subjected to in the society. The video ends with Kami calling people out on their hateful behaviour towards transgenders.
Pakistani celebrities, including Asim Azhar, Ayesha Omar, Ahmad Ali Butt, Juggun Kazim, Ushna Shah also took part in the campaign and uploaded videos in support of the initiative.
For years, the transgender and khawaja sira community in the subcontinent has been neglected. We are all equally guilty, but it’s good and hopeful to see a step in the right direction by APTN. #ChangeTheClap pic.twitter.com/fgqwF4wnvV
