ISLAMABAD: Embassy of Japan in Pakistan Deputy Chief Junya Matsuura inaugurated the extension of Al-Masoom Centre for Special Children, run by Tanzeem-al-Lissan-a non-governmental organisation (NGO)-in Faisalabad, on Tuesday. The Embassy of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme, provided financial assistance of $97,359 for the project. The inauguration ceremony was attended by students of the centre, their parents, staff members, local government officials and supporters of the centre. Japan government provided financial assistance in 2012 for the construction of ground floor of the Al-Masoom Centre; where more than 360 intellectually and physically challenged students receive quality education and rehabilitation support. With increased needs, the centre required additional space to accommodate more children. Against this background, the Japan government contributed $97,359 to add the first floor to the building where more educational and rehabilitation support could be provided. Junya Matsuura, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony, congratulated the children, their parents and the NGO representatives for timely and successful completion of the project. Matsuura underlined the importance of quality education and rehabilitation support that would lead to the welfare of special children and betterment of society. He also expressed hope that the project would not only help special children in realising their true potential but also in strengthening the existing friendly relations between the people of Japan and Pakistan.
