LAHORE: Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the director general (DG) of the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), termed the Pakistan Army as a best example of ‘national integration’.
He said, “There is no space for any kind of bias on the basis of religion, ethnicity or sect in the army”.
He was responding to a question regarding Captain (retd) Safdar’s demand of banning Ahmadis to be recruited in the army, during a television interview on Thursday night.
“Every Muslim officer recruited in the army has to submit a certificate to declare that he is not an Ahmadi and believes in Khatm-i-Nubuwwat,” he explained.
DG ISPR further said, “Let me tell you that the Pakistan Army is a national army… It’s not true that army can be joined only by Muslims because we are a Muslim country.”
Moreover, he said, “When we put on the uniform we are a Pakistani soldier only, irrespective of our religion, province or clan.”
