MUZAFFARABAD: Raja Farooq Haider Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) took oath as the new prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday evening.
AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan administered the oath to him at a ceremony here at the lawns of AJK Legislative Assembly building. The ceremony was attended by outgoing prime minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, members of Legislative Assembly and Kashmir Council, high officials, PML-N leaders and over 1,000 party workers, besides the relatives of the new prime minister.
Farooq was elected Leader of the House by the Legislative Assembly with majority on Sunday. Addressing the ceremony after taking oath of office, he reiterated his pledge to pursue merit, justice and good governance in the government affairs. “Justice for all without any discrimination, equality before law and merit will be the top priorities of his government to establish good governance,” he said.
Paying tribute to the Kashmiri freedom fighter Burhan Wani, whose had been recently killed by the Indian forces in the Indian-held Kashmir, he said that his government would prepare a proactive Kashmir policy with the consultation of the Government of Pakistan to accelerate the freedom struggle and turn the state into a real base camp for it.
