ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday urged upon Pakistani-American community to play a proactive role in promoting positive image of Pakistan as the country was coming out of the shadows of the past economic and security challenges.
He was addressing a gathering of Pakistani-American community in New York. Ahsan Iqbal urged upon them to take active part in local community welfare programmes and take part in US democratic system to promote understanding between US and Pakistan.
“The government of Pakistan is engaging with US government to train 10,000 PhDs in top US universities to develop critical mass of human resource for building knowledge economy in Pakistan.” He also apprised them about government of Pakistan’s efforts to develop modern infrastructure in the country for greater regional integration.
He described China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) a game-changer initiative, which will bring prosperity and progress to people. The minister also apprised them about efforts being made to overcome energy shortage in the country and said that these efforts reduced the load shedding significantly during the last two years.
On security front, he pointed out visible improvement that has been made in width and breadth of the country and particularly mentioned the improved law and order situation in country’s financial hub Karachi. About Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan is seeking increased cooperation from US in education sector. He also spoke on Vision-2025 saying that this roadmap is aimed at sustained and inclusive growth to take the country into top 25 economies of the world by 2025.
